Oregon - The Beaver State, State flower: Grape Prune Cake with Whipped Cream - Serves 8½ cup shortening Cream shortening, add sugar and cream until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and beat thoroughly. Add buttermilk or prune juice alternately with sifted dry ingredients. Stir in vanilla, prune pulp and nuts. Pour into two greased layr-cake pans or a sheet-cake pan about 10 x 12". Bake in a moderate oven, 350º, for 25 to 30 minutes. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream. |
