Virginia - State flower: American Dogwood

Petticoat Tails - Yields about 23 dozen cookies

NOTE: This is a primitive recipe for icebox cookies.

1 pound butter or margarine
1 cup confectioners; sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
5 cups sifted flour

Cream the butter until very soft. Add sugar and beat well. Blend in vanilla. Add flour gradually, beating until smooth after each addition. Form dough into four rolls, 1" in diameter. Wrap in wax paper. Chill until firm. Cut into 1/8" slices. Place on un-greased cookie Exopat baking mats or baking sheets. Bake at 350º for 7 minutes or until light brown. Cool before removing from sheet.
